Xiaomi is expected to release a foldable smartphone (Xiaomi Mix Fold 2) that, like its conventional cousin the 12 Ultra, may come with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ chipset, potentially making it the most advanced flexible-display gadget at the time of its release. Additionally, Ice Universe now confirms earlier speculations of additional improvements to the second-generation Mix-series variation.
The reputable leaker now echoes prior rumours on the Mix Fold 2’s weight and thickness improvements in comparison to its predecessors. Nonetheless, Ice Universe seems to go farther this time in claiming that it will be thinner and lighter than any other product in its category available in 2022.
They may include new smartphones like Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold4 and Google’s Pixel Fold/Notepad, as well as established models like the OPPO Find N.
In addition, Ice Universe now supports the Mix Fold 2 adopting the updated, somewhat shorter form-factor pioneered by the Mix Fold 2, which enhances the proportions of an inward-folding phablet’s external or ‘cover’ screen.
This may be an improvement over the original Mix Fold, whose secondary display is indeed less useable due to its height and thinness. According to Ice Universe’s most recent Weibo post on the subject, the company is now less certain that the successor will debut at the same time as the 12 Ultra.
Price and Availability
The first Mix Fold wasn’t inexpensive, but it was innovative. Base 256GB storage cost 9,999 yuan ($1,445). This time, you’ll get 512GB and 1TB storage options, and the base model is cheaper.
Prices start at 8,999 yuan ($1,336) for 256GB, then escalate to 9,999 yuan ($1,445) and 11,999 yuan ($1,782). Preorders begin today; official release is August 16. Black and gold are available.
As with the previous Mix Fold, Xiaomi’s foldable isn’t based outside China. If it releases globally at that price, it might challenge Samsung’s foldable.
