You can also phone friends and family using WhatsApp. If you use WhatsApp calling and wear a Wear OS smartwatch, you won’t get a call notification—forget about answering. Accepted calls can be hung up. This was frustrating because Wear OS watches can accept regular calls. Now, Wear OS 3-based Galaxy Watch 4 and 5 owners won’t have this problem.
On WhatsApp beta for Android 184.108.40.206 or later, your Galaxy Watch will display incoming call notifications. You can answer calls from your wrist. WhatsApp’s logo will appear on calls coming from it (via r/WearOS). The WhatsApp logo didn’t appear on 9to5Google’s Galaxy Watch 5 coupled with a Pixel 6.
The modification has been validated on the Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 4, but other Wear OS smartwatches should have the same experience. WhatsApp’s Android app does not have a native Wear OS app. This change from Meta’s messaging service will make Wear OS 3 users’ lives easier. Wear OS 3 watches can’t make WhatsApp calls.
If you’re on WhatsApp’s beta channel or sideload the latest beta, you can take incoming calls on your Wear OS-based Galaxy Watch. The feature should hit stable soon.
Can we initiate the call from wear OS 3 Smartwatch
The latest WhatsApp beta version lets Wear OS 3 smartwatches receive audio calls. Your wristwatch can’t make WhatsApp calls yet. Without a WhatsApp Wear app, this may not be possible. This implementation is still helpful. Wear OS smartwatches only alert of WhatsApp calls. No wristwatch will do. WhatsApp requires a phone.
WhatsApp is testing voice calls on Wear OS wearables. If all goes well, this functionality may be released in a few weeks. Keep the app updated to get the new feature. Click below to get WhatsApp from Google Play.
