The Logitech G Cloud Gaming Handheld comes out in October and costs $349.99

Logitech announced its first cloud gaming console after leaks last month. Logitech G Cloud Gaming Handheld will be $349.99 in October.

The Logitech G Cloud Gaming Handheld combines precision gaming controllers, a huge 1080p display, and cloud game streaming capabilities. The Tencent Games-developed smartphone supports Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and Nvidia GeForce Now. It can stream Xbox and Steam games locally. The smartphone can use Google Play Store games and video streaming apps.

Logitech uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G 2.3GHz octa-core processor. 4GB LPDDR4X RAM, 64GB UFS storage. One USB-C 3.1 port should charge the 6,000mAh battery in 2.5 hours. Logitech includes a microSD card for expansion, but there’s no 5G or SIM card support, so cloud games require Wi-Fi.

Logitech has integrated Xbox Cloud Gaming and Nvidia’s GeForce Now into the handheld. The Switch-like UI lets you launch each service, but the Xbox Cloud Gaming app is only a PWA, so there’s no deep connection. No cloud games can be pinned to the homescreen.

This device’s battery life and lightweight frame are its main draws. Logitech G Cloud Gaming Handheld is narrower and lighter than Steam Deck and Nintendo Switch (1 pound). It’s heavier than the Switch (322 grams/0.71 pounds) but lighter than the Steam Deck (669 grams/1.47)

Tencent’s software skills helped Logitech create the Android launcher for this handheld. Logitech’s game launcher offers a portable mode and a standard Android tablet mode. YouTube, Chrome, GeForce Now, and Steam Link will be preloaded.

Logitech is pitching this portable for cloud gaming, although it can run Android games. Mobile gamers prefer to play games while commuting in vehicles, trains, and aircraft, where internet connectivity is spotty. The Logitech G handheld requires a Wi-Fi signal, reducing its attractiveness.

Logitech’s October launch of the G Cloud Gaming Handheld is limited to the US and Canada. Early adopters can preorder for $299.99 instead of $349.99. However this pricing falls between the Nintendo Switch ($299.99) and the Steam Deck ($399), making it a tough sell for a cloud gaming device.

Amazon, Best Buy, and Logitech’s website will sell the G Cloud Gaming Handheld on October 17.
