Sony confirms September 1 announcement, Xperia 5 IV anticipated

Xperia 5 IV

On September 1, Sony will host a launch event for the Xperia 5 IV. The event will be live-streamed on the Sony Xperia YouTube account at 4PM Japan time/9AM CEST.

Sony joined up with musician Cat Burns, who shot and recorded her latest music video on the “new Xperia” phone. Based on rumors and a more recent FCC certification Xperia 5 IV will debut with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset and a camera setup similar to the outgoing Xperia 5 III with three 12MP sensors. It will include a 6-inch OLED screen and wireless charging.

Xperia 5 IV will fill an iPhone 13 mini-sized hole

The Xperia 1 III and 5 III were revealed in April last year, but the 1 IV came in May. Apple isn’t likely to release a successor to the iPhone 13 small, leaving a void.

The Xperia IV will likely be similar to the Xperia 1 IV. Both phones had Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipsets, 4500mAh batteries, 120Hz OLED displays, Gorilla Glass 6 backs, IP68 ratings, 5G, and headphone ports.

Specs, price and availability

Xperia 1 III has a 6.5-inch 4K HDR display, while Xperia 5 III had a 6.1-inch FHD+ screen. Xperia 5 III was lighter.

The former had four cameras and 12GB of RAM, while the later had three and 8GB. Xperia 5 III cost $1,000 and Xperia 1 III $1,300. Fans of tiny phones will like the Xperia 5 IV’s 6.04-inch screen, according to speculations.

The phone will likely have a 12MP main sensor, 12MP telephoto device, and 12MP ultrawide module. The upcoming Xperia 5 should have NFC and wireless charging, unlike prior models. It will likely use Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 and 12GB of RAM.

At $1,599, the Xperia 1 IV is more expensive than its predecessor, but Sony has supposedly trimmed costs to avoid the Xperia 5 IV’s price from soaring.
