Oppo has expanded its range of smartwatches by releasing the Oppo Watch 3 series at an online event in China yesterday. The brand has produced two devices under the new series called the Oppo Watch 3 and the Oppo Watch 3 Pro. They are the world’s first smartwatches to feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 processor, which was declared official in July.

The chipmaker’s Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 and W5 Gen 1 wearable platforms offer 50% longer battery life than Wear 4100+ platforms. These SoCs offer twice the performance and features of older wearables platforms, including immersive interactive experiences, ultra-low power ambient experiences, and always-sensing health and fitness experiences.

Oppo has confirmed that its upcoming Watch 3 will use Qualcomm’s W5 Gen 1. Based on a 4 nm node, the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 promises superior performance and improved battery life. W5 Gen 1 shares CPU cores with its predecessor, but the node shift should give it the edge. The GPU is much more powerful than the Snapdragon Wear 4100.

The Oppo Watch 3 will arrive on August 10, says Digital Chat Station. If correct, Oppo plans to unveil its next-generation smartwatch on the same day Samsung does. The same leaker allegedly shared an Oppo Watch 3 render. Both smartwatches shown are different. We speculate that these could be the Watch 3 and Watch 3 Pro. One model has a digital crown and elongated display, while the other resembles an Apple Watch without its crown.

Digital Chat Station revealed unofficial renders of the upcoming smartwatch series. Renders show a square design similar to OPPO Watch 2. OPPO Watch 3’s screen-to-body ratio is higher than its predecessor’s. OPPO Watch 3 rumours include ECG monitoring and LTPO screen. Black, silver, dark grey, and light gold are expected smartwatch colours.

Oppo’s Watch 3 may not leave China. It took Oppo a while to sell its first smartwatch outside China. Oppo only sells the original Snapdragon Wear 3100-powered Oppo Watch globally. Oppo probably won’t mention a global release when announcing the Watch 3 in China.
