iPhone 14 and 14 Plus: Everything including price, specs and first impressions

iPhone 14

Apple’s choice to replace the small with the 14 Plus is logical. Apple’s 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Plus complements the 6.1-inch iPhone 14.

At first appearance, that’s all the 14 Plus has new. The Plus has a similar A15 Bionic chip to Apple’s iPhone 13, but with additional graphics cores. What’s new besides size?

The 14 Plus has improved low-light photography and a new video Action mode. New safety features include Satellite SOS and Crash Detection.

Is iPhone 14 Plus cool? iPhone 14 Pro Max eliminates the notch and has a 48MP camera and always-on display. If you want a huge display for less money, the iPhone 14 Plus may be preferable.

Apple’s A16 Bionic chip powers the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. Base model and Plus use the iPhone 13’s A15 Bionic. Apple didn’t explain why it’s not using the A16 chip in all of its models, but the global semiconductor scarcity may be to blame.

Apple’s Pro and Pro Max have a pill-shaped camera cutout. Apple turned it into a feature called Dynamic Island. Pill-shaped cutout expands to show notifications.

Displays won’t change much from last generation. The lower models have 60Hz displays, while the more expensive ones have 120Hz. Each phone has the same OLED and resolution as previous year. The Pro and Pro Max are 2000 nits brighter than the iPhone 13.

Face ID biometrics, Dolby Vision for the Pro and Pro Max, MagSafe charging and accessories, action mode (video stabilisation), wireless charging, 5G support, crash detection, SOS via satellite, and always-on display are also significant.

Release Dates and prices for iPhone 14 and 14 Plus

iPhone 14 pricing starts at $799 (£849, AU$1,399) for a 128GB variant when activated on a carrier plan. Preorders start September 9 and sales start September 16.

The iPhone 14 Plus starts at $899 (£949, AU$1,579) and is available Oct. 7 (preorder Sept. 9).

Base model iPhone 14 has dual 12 MP cameras. Apple’s Photonic Engine technology improves low-light camera performance. The Pro and Pro Max will have wide, ultrawide, and telephoto lenses as last year. One difference: a 48 MP primary camera.

Apple’s Pro and Pro Max have 48 MP primary cameras. This camera can record 8K video. Apple updated all models’ selfie cams.

Battery and charging Ability

I’m not clear what Apple means by “best battery life on iPhone” with the iPhone 14 Plus. It has a 26-hour video, 20-hour streaming, and 100-hour audio rating.

However, the iPhone 14 Pro Max ups that to 29, 25 and and 95 hours. The iPhone 14 Plus lasts longer than the ordinary iPhone, which lasts 20, 16 and 80 hours.

Charge slowly. 20W charging for the iPhone 14 Plus takes 30 minutes. MagSafe 15W charging is supported.
