DJI shows off DJI Avata, which is the most immersive drone experience ever.

Dji Avata

DJI’s new hybrid racing drone is the next generation. Avata is smaller and lighter, but it still feels exciting.

DJI Avata is a tiny quadcopter built for FPV. As the successor to the DJI FPV, pilots may experience entertaining controls and FPV goggles.

DJI’s Avata has propeller protectors. This makes the drone safer for sensitive flights, but you may need it when you fly closer to trees and other objects.

Dji Avata Overview

DJI Avata is FPV-ready. Only a single-axis camera gimbal sits on the front, but the 4K shooter streams directly to your headset. Immerse yourself in the flight with DJI FPV Goggles 2 or older goggles.

DJI Motion Controller makes FPV more exciting. The one-handed Motion Controller and its restricted flight controls take some getting used to for videogame remote users. It feels natural once inside the goggles.

The drone is 8 inches by 3 inches. It doesn’t fold, thus its tiny form is good for travel and flying through gaps.

Strong, but skeletonized, airframe. Propeller guards double as landing gear, the camera and propellers mount to a centre plate with the flight controller and other electronics, and the batteries and radios live in an upper frame that shields the camera. Simple elegance.

The DJI Avata isn’t the best camera drone or racer, but it’s a hybrid that can do both.

Specs

Per battery, the DJI Avata can fly for 18 minutes. O3 (OcuSync 3) ensures a strong connection at close range and long-range flying. There is no new controller for this drone; pilots can use the earlier DJI FPV Controller or the Motion Controller.

1/1.7-inch front camera. It captures 4K at 60fps and 48MP photos. The 16GB of inbuilt flash storage can hold media files or a microSD card. Most eyewear can record to microSD card.

The camera is mounted on a dampened, single-axis gimbal. RockSteady and HorizonSteady digital stabilisation are included. Avata is DJI’s flying action camera.

DJI’s downward-facing sensors avoid obstacles. No other sensors are aboard to help avoid airborne crashes besides the camera. Hence, propeller guards.
