Asus has added the 6D and 6D Ultimate to the ROG Phone 6 line. Previous variants have 165Hz refresh rate, Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1, and 18GB of LPDDR5 RAM. What will 6D models bring? It’s all here.
The ROG Phone 6D and 6D Ultimate continue from the Phone 6 and 6 Pro. These phones are similar to their predecessors. Changes include colour, weight, and CPU and GPU. Asus lists the 6D as a ROG Phone 6 option. The 6D Ultimate is a step above the 6 Pro. Let’s compare the ROG Phone 6D with 6D Ultimate.
Design and Outlook
The 6D and 6D Ultimate sport the same 6.78-inch AMOLED display with 720Hz touch-sampling and 165Hz refresh rate. It will have the same IPX4 rating and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection. Both phones contain a headphone port, dual front-facing speakers, and the same camera.
The 6D and 6D Ultimate’s colour changes the formula. Both the 6D and 6D Ultimate will be available in Space Gray matte. 6D will be similar in weight to previous models, but 6D Ultimate will be 8g heavier. The 6D Ultimate will also have a ROG Vision display.
Camera
Phone 6 and 6 Pro cameras are the same. We’ll discuss the 6D and 6D Ultimate’s camera features. Features include:
- Edit camera mode — a mode that allows you to customize, order, and disable camera modes
- Flashlight countdown indicator
- Auto exposure bracketing — a setting available in pro mode that makes it possible for the camera to capture shots at different shutter speeds and aperture values
- HyperSteady video — a mode that enhances electronic image stabilization
- Separate auto exposure and autofocus
- Slow motion
- 8K video
- Time-lapse settings
- Dynamic night mode
Specification
The two phones are similar besides the processor and cooling port. Space Grey is exclusive to the ROG Phone 6D Ultimate and the ROG Phone 6D, a cheaper variant without the ROG Vision screen on the back. On the rear is a 50-megapixel camera with 13MP wide-angle and 5MP macro sensors.
The ROG Phone 6D Ultimate’s main camera provides bright, colourful photographs. The wide-angle camera oversaturates and smooths, but it’s fine for casual use. It’s as huge and hefty as the ROG Phone 6 Pro. It’s unwieldy at first, especially one-handed Twitter browsing.
Because the AeroActive Cooler 6 is integral to the ROG Phone 6D Ultimate’s operation, Asus has included it in the box. It’s separate for the ROG Phone 6 Pro and 6D. It’s huge like the phone and adds heft and disrupts the balance when attached. This is especially obvious with the top-edge AirTriggers. These virtual buttons can improve games with varied controllers.
Special Phone for Gamers
The change astonished me. I didn’t expect ROG Phone 6D Ultimate to be better than the Qualcomm-powered phone. The MediaTek-powered phone kept up, maintained a steady frame rate, and never surpassed the ROG Phone 6 Pro’s maximum temperature, proving the cooling port works.
The Asus ROG Phone 6D Ultimate… has a motorized cooling port on the back. It works with the AeroCooler Active 6 fan accessory, which blows cool air *inside* the phone.

Asus says the AeroActive Cooling Port cools after an hour of continuous play, and up to 45 minutes it’s the same as the ROG Phone 6 Pro. We’ll explain why this is significant, but it will help you choose the right ROG Phone 6.
The benchmarking app. Benchmark scores don’t have much real-world relevance, so we don’t focus on them. Playing games reveals the ROG Phone 6D Ultimate’s skill. It’s quite smooth and stays that way. But it’s not like the ROG Phone 6 Pro is feebly slow, and when I played both back-to-back, I saw no difference. I’ll explain why it’s vital again.
Not simply the processor and cooling improve performance. The phone also employs MediaTek’s Hyper Engine 5.0 gaming platform, which monitors frame rate and anticipates performance drops. All this contributes to the ROG Phone 6D Ultimate’s excellent stats.
It means the phone eats through the battery, losing roughly 20% in the 20-minute 3DMark test alone. The ROG Phone 6D Ultimate’s 6,000 mAh battery can last at least two days without gaming.
Price and Availability
The ROG Phone 6D costs £799 ($911) in the U.K., while the Ultimate costs £1,199 ($1,367) Both versions are Space Gray. Asus has not yet announced availability. The corporation said the new models won’t reach North America.
