iPhone 14 line up leaks
The 2022 Apple iPhone 14 models haven’t been out yet, but we’ve been hearing rumours about them since before the iPhone 13 models came out last year.
Apple will eliminate the 5.4-inch iPhone mini in 2022 because it wasn’t popular. After poor iPhone mini sales, Apple plans to focus on larger iPhone sizes for its flagship devices. We’re expecting a 6.1-inch iPhone 14, a 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro, a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max, and a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max. No 5.4-inch iPhone 14 mini this year.
Since 2017, iPhones with Face ID have had a notch to store face scanning electronics. With the iPhone 14, that will change. The 2022 iPhone 14 Pro versions will likely lack a notch. Apple will likely employ a circular cutout for the camera and a pill-shaped cutout for Face ID. The cheaper iPhone 14 models will continue to have a regular notch.
We’re not expecting any major design changes this year, but the iPhone 14 and 14 Pro’s camera bumps could get thicker. Apple may add a purple colour option.
iPhone 14 Pro variants may include a titanium frame instead of stainless steel and revised speaker and microphone grilles. Apple could utilise a new vapour chamber thermal technology to keep the iPhone cooler to accommodate faster CPUs and 5G.
New iPhones always have better cameras, and the 14 is no exception. The Ultra Wide camera will be improved, and Apple may add a “periscope” zoom lens for greater optical magnification in 2022 or 2023. Pro iPhone versions will include 48-megapixel cameras and 8K video recording, but not the basic iPhone 14.
According to rumours, the iPhone 14 will use the same A15 chip as the iPhone 13, while the iPhone 14 Pro would get an improved A16 chip. This would be the first time the Pro iPhone models got a speedier chip. Apple may be doing this to minimise costs and ease supply concerns.

Release Date
Apple hasn’t released the iPhone 14. The iPhone 14 will presumably be released in September, when Apple regularly does it.
September 14, 2021 will bring the iPhone 13. The iPhone 14 could arrive on September 6 or 13, 2022, since Apple loves the first or second Tuesday in September. iDropNews agrees. Apple Park festivities begin at 10 a.m. PT (6 p.m. GMT/4 a.m. AEST).
Foxconn, the world’s largest iPhone manufacturing, reportedly handed cash bonuses in July. This matches Apple’s rumoured release date.
Delay possible. China’s commodity lockdowns reportedly delayed an iPhone 14 model. Apple’s iPhone 14 camera “quality concern”
Another analyst claims the iPhone 14 Max is two months late. It doesn’t cause supply shortages, but it’s a production defect.
Apple didn’t announce iPhone 14 in March 2022. Techies got iPhone SE 3 and iPad Air.
Price
Between 2020’s iPhone 12 and 2021’s iPhone 13, Apple didn’t modify prices. With the iPhone 14 bringing more innovations, Apple may boost prices in 2022.
Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives says the new iPhone may cost $100 more. Cupertino must pass on rising supply chain costs to consumers, Ives told The Sun.
Other rumours say the iPhone 14 will be cheaper than last year’s model. A Korean leaker named yeux1122 says Apple would “lock” the price of the iPhone 14 base model, and Kuo thinks the high-end 6.7-inch phone will launch for under $900. That’s a deal compared to the $1,099-$1,599 iPhone 13 Pro Max.
Camera Rumours
Apple may have a few camera upgrades in store for the upcoming iPhone 14. Rumors say the tech giant has chosen a new supplier for its front-facing camera to make a higher-end lens. According to a report from Korean tech site ET News, citing unnamed industry sources, South Korean supplier LG Innotek will provide the new selfie camera for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro.
Kuo also shared insights about the iPhone 14’s potential camera upgrades in an investors note reported on by 9to5Mac just after the iPhone 13 launch. In the note, Kuo predicts a hole-punch front camera, making the iPhone 14 notchless, as well as a 48-megapixel wide rear camera for the Pro and Pro Max models, up from 12 megapixels on previous iPhones.
Display analyst Ross Young hypothesizes, however, that the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will have a hole-and-pill shaped design to accommodate for the front-facing camera and Face ID. The hole cutout is believed to be for the Face ID dot projector, and the pill-shaped cutout holds the front camera and Face ID camera, according to a January report from MacRumors. Supposedly leaked CAD renders of the iPhone 14, seen by 91mobiles, corroborate this rumor.
Kuo’s speculation regarding the camera’s megapixel capacity aligns with both a recent research note from Haitong International Securities, also reported on by MacRumors, and a report from research company TrendForce. Both Jeff Pu and TrendForce hypothesize the two Pro models will be equipped with a 48-megapixel wide lens. Pu, however, adds that the iPhones will sport a triple-lens rear camera system with a 12-megapixel ultrawide and telephoto lenses in addition to the 48-megapixel wide lens. The analyst adds that the Pro versions of the iPhone 14 could sport 8GB of RAM, as well. (In comparison, the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max have 6GB.) This is corroborated by a report from a Korean blog that cites domestic supply chain sources, as MacRumors spotted.
iPhone 13 camera upgrades include a new Cinematic mode, ProRes video and some improvements in zoom capabilities. It had previously reported on rumors that the entire lineup would feature lidar, the iPhone 12 Pro’s standout depth-sensing feature, but lidar ended up making an appearance only on the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max after all. It’s possible Apple might expand the feature to its full lineup in 2022 instead, but we haven’t heard anything yet.
Another of the camera features we’re still waiting on is an improved telephoto lens. While the iPhone 13 Pro’s zoom capabilities were given a 3x optical zoom, it still pales in comparison to a lot of competitor flagships, including Samsung’s Galaxy S22 Ultra, which boasts a 10x optical zoom.
Color
Midnight, Starlight, and Product RED will be available as normal, with a lighter sky blue and a new purple option. Since the leak has been destroyed, its reliability is unclear. Artist Souta’s render of a purple iPhone 14 Pro demonstrates how it would look in reality.
In May, MacRumors highlighted iPhone 14 colour rumours, with purple being the biggest shift. Otherwise, the report lists the iPhone 13 and 13 black, white, blue, and [Product] Red possibilities. Apple’s black and white phones are called “Midnight” and “Starlight.” Pink and green won’t be used.
A recent leak from an iPhone 14 tipster reveals all the phone’s hues. Green, Purple, Blue, Black, White, and Red are rumoured iPhone 14 colours. Purple, Green, Silver, and Graphite are iPhone 14 Pro colours.
Other features and Specs
According Apple reports, the iPhone 14 will sport the A15 Bionic chip, while the iPhone 14 Pro will have the A16. Ming Chi-Kuo said Apple will ship more iPhone 14 Pro units than normal iPhone 14s.
Leaked benchmarks may reveal how much extra power the A16 offers. The A15 Bionic is so strong that having it in the iPhone 14 won’t be a negative thing, and you shouldn’t disregard the ordinary iPhone 14 models because they lack a silicon boost.
All four iPhone 14 models will have 6GB RAM, up from 4GB on the iPhone 13 and 13 small. Base versions would employ LPDDR4X RAM like the iPhone 13, while Pro models would feature faster LPDDR5 RAM.
Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and Micron Technology are gearing ready to supply memory for the upcoming iPhone 14 range, with the normal and Max/Plus models getting LPDDR4X RAM and the iPhone 14 Pro variants sporting LPDDR5 RAM.
We expect Apple to continue offering 128GB and 1TB storage options for the iPhone 13 series.
The iPhone 14 rumoured to have 2TB of storage. Given that no Samsung phone offers this and they’ve been liberal with capacity, we doubt an iPhone will have the most storage.
Jeff Pu claims the iPhone 14 and 14 Max will start with 64GB of storage and the iPhone 14 Pro Max with 256GB. The latter is plausible, but the former would be half the iPhone 13’s storage.
GlobalDate analyst Emma Mohr-McClune thinks Apple could introduce an eSIM-only iPhone 14. This would boost the iPhone’s attractiveness among business users and international tourists.
According to a Weibo source, all iPhone 14 models save the Pro Max will get a slightly larger battery. The 14 Pro Max is downsizing, but it shouldn’t affect battery life.
iPhone 14 VS 14 Pro
The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max may be in a league of its own, based on reports. Only the pros will have telephoto zooms. The upcoming iPhone 14 Pros may include in-display Touch ID, which would replace the notch with a punch hole.
The iPhone 14 Pro will include a 48MP main camera, compared to 12MP for the ordinary iPhone 14. Only the iPhone 14 Pros may have USB-C instead of Lightning.
The iPhone 14 Pro may use the A16 Bionic chip, while the iPhone 14 may have the A15 chip.
Jeff Pu believes all four iPhone 14 models could have 120Hz displays and 6GB of RAM.
Future Rumours
iPhone 16 Pro could be Apple’s first all-screen smartphone in 2024. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says the iPhone 18 could be the first with under-display Face ID and a front camera, although display analyst Ross Young expects under-display Face ID to come first.
Display analyst Ross Young expects 2023 iPhones to have a dual-hole cutout like the iPhone 14 Pro versions. 2023 models will have the same circular and pill-shaped cutouts as the Pro models. The pill and hole design could reduce, but Apple won’t have under-display Face ID for years.
